Crowder participated as a sponsor during the recent Associated Schools of Construction (ASC) Southeast Region II Student Construction Competition, held October 28th – 30th in Greensboro, NC. ASC partnered with the Carolinas AGC Foundation for a fantastic and fun event.

This competition challenges schools with difficult heavy civil, design-build, concrete and commercial projects. One of our very own, Randy Damm, estimator for the Civil & Environmental Division, developed a challenging concrete clarifier estimating problem for the student competition. Tom O’Leary (Finance Manager), Charlie Fuller (Project Director), and Therese Dean (Employee Development Manager) authored the student problem statement and acted as the project owner and judges for five competing schools as they developed a solid estimates that included all project management and construction method recommendations. Linnell Stanhope, part of Crowder's Business Development (BD) department, used her keen BD experience to review each team’s qualification package and provided some solid learning opportunities. Schools participating in the competition included: NC State, Auburn, University of Florida, UNC-Charlotte and Virginia Tech. We were happy to select NC State as the first place winner and Virginia Tech as second place. VA Tech also walked away with the best presentation award.

This was Crowder’s second year to participate and we definitely enjoyed the opportunity to mentor and teach these young, up and coming professionals! Great event!!
