Hampton Boulevard Tank and Pump Station (Design-Bid-Build)
Norfolk, VA
Crowder constructed a 2 MG water storage tank and 7.7 MGD booster pump station for the City of Norfolk. The prestressed concrete ground water storage tank improved reliability and increased water pressure in the City’s northwest sector. The booster pump station included constant-speed pumps, a bridge crane, and a natural gas driven generator. Crowder’s collaborative approach with the owner (City of Norfolk) and design engineer partner) Hazen and Sawyer overcame cost impacts and significant delivery delays due to supply chain interruptions to minimize impacts to the schedule. Multiple existing water main tie-ins within a major arterial roadway (Hampton Boulevard) required extensive coordination with the Norfolk Right-of-Way Management team. Due to high traffic capacities, the majority of the work required night and weekend shutdowns to reduce impacts on the highly traveled roadway.
